I visited “WHITE GLASS COFFEE,” a cafe located about a 10-minute walk from Shibuya Station, and tried their “White Basque Cheesecake.”
About WHITE GLASS COFFEE (Atmosphere & Features)

WHITE GLASS COFFEE is located in the Sakuragaokacho area of Shibuya. It takes just under 10 minutes on foot from Shibuya Station—simply leave the station, cross the pedestrian bridge, and walk up the hill. Despite being slightly away from the bustling station center, it is a popular spot where lines often start forming before noon on weekends.

WHITE GLASS COFFEE is produced by “green bean to bar CHOCOLATE,” a renowned craft chocolate brand based in Nakameguro and Nihonbashi.
The cafe offers indoor table seating, terrace seating, and counter seats. According to Tabelog, it accommodates about 50 seats in total. While reasonably sized, it isn’t overly huge, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if you visit on a weekend or holiday.

The interior features a warm, natural aesthetic with fantastic vibes and Instagram-worthy decor. It’s easy to see why it is so popular.
Menu Lineup
The menu consists of baked pastries, fresh chilled cakes, bread-based meal plates, and a broad beverage lineup. When I visited, the lunch menu featured a generous salad bowl. In addition, there was a hearty selection of sandwiches including tuna, chicken, and BLT.

The selection of baked goods and fresh pastries is even more impressive. During my visit, the baked goods included croissants, apple pies, scones, doughnuts, cannelés, cookies, apricot pies, and crumble tarts. The chilled dessert showcase featured shortcake, tiramisu, coffee jelly, pudding brownie, cream puffs, and lemon tart. Every item is beautifully designed and remarkably stylish. The variety and aesthetic quality make you almost forget you’re in a regular cafe.

For drinks, they offer brewed coffee, espresso-based beverages (such as lattes), decaf options, teas, soft drinks, and even alcoholic beverages.

For this visit, I ordered the White Basque Cheesecake (660 yen for dine-in).

Reviewing the White Basque Cheesecake (660 yen)

The cheesecake is also available for takeout. It comes in a square cut priced at 660 yen per slice (dine-in price). Whole cakes appear to be available for purchase as well.

The cross-section reveals a pale, moist, and velvety interior texture.

The first bite was a delightful surprise. Given the name “White Basque Cheesecake,” I expected a strong white chocolate note, but instead, the rich, fresh flavor of heavy cream came through prominently. It offers a taste completely unlike any standard Basque cheesecake I’ve had before.
The texture is exceptionally moist and smooth. The mellow, milky sweetness of fresh cream emerging from within the rich cream cheese is pure bliss, leaving a wonderfully satisfying aftertaste.
In the best possible way, it pleasantly defies what you might expect from a Basque cheesecake. With its smooth, approachable flavor profile, it’s a dessert that almost anyone is sure to love.
