I stopped by “vitto.,” a cafe nestled under the expressway overpass right outside Higashi-Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo, to try their Basque cheesecake.

“vitto.” is located in Minami-Ikebukuro 2-chome, Toshima Ward, Tokyo. The closest station is Higashi-Ikebukuro on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, located just a 1-minute walk away. It is also an easy walk from Ikebukuro Station, taking less than 10 minutes.

Right next door to “vitto.” is another cafe called “FABRIC,” a popular neighborhood spot where customers were waiting outside when I visited around noon on a weekend.
This neighborhood actually features three or four charming cafes with great ambiance. Several spots have opened over the past few years, giving the impression that this area surrounding Higashi-Ikebukuro Station is poised to become a vibrant cafe hub, much like the recent boom in the Shinjuku 2-chome area.
A Cozy, Sophisticated Natural-Tone Interior
“vitto.” newly opened in May 2026. It is an intimate boutique cafe with 9 table seats and 3 counter seats (according to Tabelog). The interior features a clean, sophisticated aesthetic with natural tones—wood-grain tables, gentle warm lighting, soft sunlight pouring in through large windows, and 90s hip-hop playing softly in the background, creating an exceptionally comfortable and inviting space.

vitto.’s Menu and an Avocado Toast Worth Returning For
While the menu is concise, it features espresso-based coffees, tea selections, soft drinks, a few varieties of toast, baked goods, and Basque cheesecake. As a recently opened cafe, it is very likely that their menu will continue to evolve and expand over time.
On this visit, I ordered the Avocado Toast (1,180 yen), the Basque Cheesecake (800 yen), and a Flat White (650 yen).

Generously topped with fresh avocado on crusty artisanal sourdough and seasoned with nuts and olive oil, the avocado toast was so delicious that it guarantees a return visit.

Smooth & Rich! Basque Cheesecake Tasting Review
And here is the Basque cheesecake.

Served simply without garnishes, the portion is substantial. The surface boasts a perfectly caramelized crust, while the sliced cross-section reveals an appetizingly silky texture that instantly whets the appetite.

Taking a bite, the texture is just as smooth and velvety as it looks. As it dissolves effortlessly over the palate, it delivers a pronounced, creamy richness that highlights the genuine flavor and aroma of cream cheese. Rather than merely being sweet or dense, it carries a deep complexity that keeps you hooked from the first forkful to the last.

It is an exemplary Basque cheesecake that clearly reflects meticulous attention to quality ingredients and baking technique.
